Every single thing the ants do continually pushes Flik further and further into the position of being in the right, Flik and Dot are pretty much the only likable ants in the film.
My biggest problem with the movie is the advisor ants, they are always being so mean-spirited towards Flik to the point where they cause the film to feel completely unwatchable.
I loved it when I was a kid but nowadays it's not as good as I remember it. Pixar's second movie is kind of a mixed bag for me, I can't decide whether I like this movie or not.
But most importantly it teaches us something that's mainly targeted at adults in such a perfect way while balancing it out with what children can enjoy that it's able to show how Pixar can appeal to any demographic. The other characters are all memorable, you remember what each one looks like, and what makes them unique enough to stand out from one another which is supported by the talented voice cast. Dory is the heart of the movie, you would think that her having short term memory loss would get old really really quickly but instead, it doesn't, she's voiced by Ellen DeGeneres after all, and the jokes and memorable quotes from her never fail. Ignoring my main issue, the animation is gorgeous, you got lots of bright colors, realistic textures, sunlight shimmering through the waves, and the ocean is very mysterious and pleasant to look at. I'm not particularly a fan of how Marlin acts towards Nemo at the beginning nor do I enjoy it when Nemo disobeys him to give him a piece of his mind but it gets better afterward. I could honestly talk about this movie for hours and never do it justice, you'll have to check it out for yourselves. Woody learns that being a toy isn't about being the #1 favorite and is instead about being there for Andy if he needs him, while Buzz learns that even if his role in the world isn't as big as he was made to think, he does still have a fulfilling purpose in life. The way Woody and Buzz work off each other is an excellent friendship between them and I like how at first it's a comedically brilliant pair-up with Woody's annoyance of Buzz's delusional and self-entitled shenanigans until they both learn something that they haven't been abiding by and end up becoming close friends as a result. This is one of those few movies that literally have no problems with it whatsoever (except for the animation on the humans and Sid's dog Scud) but that doesn't affect how the movie holds up as a whole one bit. This is what started the trend of computer-animated movies, it has the best cast for the best characters, excellent story, and what got Pixar started. Until the day Andy decides he no longer has any further use for him, Woody needs to just enjoy it while it lasts. This is about him coming to terms with the fact that Andy will eventually outgrow him, but just because love doesn't last forever, it's still worth experiencing. But of course, just like all the other movies, the stuff with Woody is always the main highlight of the film. Jessie has a very heartbreaking backstory that's tragic but still illustrated beautifully, especially thanks to the song When She Loved Me. What really makes me rate it so high though is the drama. Potato Head, at this rate the sky's the limit with how good these jokes are. The comedy in the Toy Story films is ALWAYS funny, so when it comes to the laughs in this, we got Buzz being annoyed by his utility belt counterpart seeing how annoying he was when he acted that way, Tour Guide Barbie, Rex's obsession with beating a Buzz Lightyear game, the one-liners between Hamm and Mr. Potato-Head, Wheezy, Jessie, Bullseye, Prospector, another Buzz Lightyear but with a utility belt, Barbie, and the Evil Emperor Zurg. The whole gang from the first movie has returned as well as some new characters such as Mrs. On top of that, the film actually got deleted at one point and it seemed like they were about to go bankrupt, but luckily Pixar didn't give up and they were able to give us the sequel that we all know and love today. The first Toy Story already set the bar really high for a lot of computer-animated films but this is what saved Pixar and showed the world that they're not a one-trick-pony in a time where A Bug's Life and DreamWorks' Ants was released the same year, causing people to feel skeptical on what all of this would result in.
